RACING NOTES
o CILLAS FOR INDIA It lias now beeri decided that Cillas, winner of the Herries Memorial Cup, will not be raced any more in this Dominion, but will be shipped to India at the first opportunity. TRANSFER TO TE RAPA Dinky Di. hitherto trained by Hector Gray at Takanini. has now joined the team presided over by Frank Tutclien at Te Rapa. Dinky's box at Takanini will be occupied :oy the Bulandshar filly, Kinvara. TOT ALI SAT OR TAXATION The Te Aroha Jockey Club's contribution to the Treasury being taxation on its recent meeting was £9354 7s 4d. It is expected that as the result of the Bay of Plenty fixture, the Government will receive in taxation approximately £45,700. RELATED TO MI NT LAW * Justina, winner of the Waiuku Handicap at the Franklin meeting, is by Foxbridge—Administration, therefore a half-sister to Mintlaw. She is owned by her breeder, Mr A. H. Storey, of Te Awamutu, and trained bv J. J. Goodwin, of Papatoetoe. RIOTOUS AT ELLERSLIE The Palmerston North owned Riotous, who is in tip top form for autumn steeplechasing, is now a member of D. Burgess' team at Ellerslie. His trainer has that line hurdler, Small Boy, in nice trim, so will have a strong hand in the settlement ol' jumping events. LADY VIXEN Lady Vixen, now owned by Mr Reg Lewis, of Auckland, and winner of two hack event:; at the Te Aroha fixture was bred by Mr Alf Lennard, of Waihou. By Foxbridge from Lady Lap, by Lapidary, she traces back to the King Cole mare, Ida, who among a number of victories over 30 years ago, gained fame by winning four welter events at Ellerslie at a winter meeting, two each day. Lady Vixen is trained by P. W. Scally, of Auckland. RETAINS HIS SPEED The win of Mr R. B. Hines' Brazen Bold in the Pukekohe Handicap on Saturday, goes to show that the Brazen—Ridicule representative retains the brilliancy he was noted for in the early stages of his racing career. About three months ago he joined Hector Gray's team at Takanini, and on Saturday he was making his first-start in the present season. It is expected that lie will be raced at the forthcoming Bay of Plenty meeting. He was successful on the Tauranga course two years ago. RETURNING TO FORM The Cambridge trained Chain Acre by Surveyor, showed distinct promise on Labour Day by winning decisively on the local course, defeating Foxola, Classic and several others. At Te Awamutu on December 14 he appeared to have lost form, and for some weeks was in rather a bad way through being a victim of the malady that affected the W. Townsend stable in December and January. Apparently he has made a satisfactory recovery, as he ran a good second . ( u Saturday at Pukekohe to Justina. UP TO TEN FURLONGS At Parawai in January the Whirl wind filly, Gay Rosette, won the Goldfield's Cup, one mile and a quarter, from a good field in 2min osecs. On the second day she registered a brilliant performance in the President's Handicap nine furlongs, by Avinning in 1.51 3-5, time very seldom recorded in the Dominion. A fortnight ago in the Storey Memorial, eleven furlongs, at the Waikato meeting she beat all but that good three year old, Lou Rosa, when these performances are taken into consideration it was rather surprising to find that she was only fourth favourite for the Franklin Cup, in which she was victorious.
