OHOPE BEACH ROAD

Sir, —I have read Avith much interest the letters published irk_your paner recently, expressing the' different points of vieAV Avith reference to the Ohopo Bcacli Road fronting sections Ito 58. Until the last stupid and personal attack AA*as made on a public spirited, citizen, there AA r as a degree of common sense in the argument, but now it appears to have developed into \ channel for venting one's personal feelings at some one else's expense.

As a resident of Ohope occupying one of the sections in question and one who lias taken some pains to discover the true facts of the case from both points of view it appears to ma the matter simply revolves round the point, of, on what terms or conditions the owners of sections 1 to 58 purchased their property.

If, as I understand, the agreements to purchase, incorporated a clause stating that access must be given to all OAvners, friends, trades people, etc. at all times along a right-of-way measuring one.cjiain from high water mark, in width, and reaching the full distance of the block containing sectional J3TSB, surely there cannot be any disagreement about the matter, as I take it every section holder can read and understand the English language and is nAvare of the Avording of the agreement under which he made his or her purchase. I ask you, Mr Editor, is it not just a matter of right is right and wrong is Avrong. The next question, then, as I see it, is should the road be formed and dedicated or not. Is it possible there can be any real difference of opinion as to which is the better for the advancement of such a splendid and valuable seaside resort as Ohope—l think not.

Of course, some may be too selfish or not sufficiently interested in the betterment of Ohope as a whole, to admit the value of such a road* but these are happily in the minority and are definitely interested only in thair own little corner, of what, after all is a pleasure, resort and beach open to all, rich or poor, section holders or visitors. To sum up the position is altogether so overwhelmingly in favour of this road being formed and dedicated, that I am unable to understand why an alert and progressive County Council has not used the authority vested in it, by the and carried the matter through years ago. Yes, even in the face of petitions bearing signatures, obtained under, to say the least, very questionable methods.

Countjr Councillors — You were elected to control anil carry out a job of work for the betterment and general advancement of the ratepayers as a body, so, if you. with your knowledge and experience, consider it wise and right, and in the interests of the majority of the ratepayers to form and dedicate this road, there oan be no question as to your duty. We look to you for action! Yours etc., "NOT ONE OF THE FOUR.'
