PROGRESS OF STEWART STREET
Sir. —During the last few days, the hay has been cut, raked and carted away from the footpaths. The lighting is still next to nil. On£ light in long dark Stewart Street, has to suffice; for the one opposite main gate of hospital and that at corner of Hinemoa Street, ceased to function a considerable time ago. The large- globe at the chief corner, shows brilliantly in King Street, but throws a black shadow half way up Stewart Street. Where are our highly paid Inspectors? Complaints are rife regarding the speeding of motor eye-, lists and some car drivers. They take a delight in using King and Stewart Street as speedways, regardless of the hospital patients. At about 8.30 on Sunday night two people just escaped being knocked over, and perhaps seriously injured, by tvvo of these brazen motor bike friends (both machines being without lights). Some day these lunatics will unfortunately kill somebody other than themselves, if they are not pulled up. Yours etc., A PROSPECTIVE COUNCILLOR.
