DRINKING AT DANCES

Sir, —As a member of the Taneatua Hall Committee, I would like to correct a statement that appeared in your paper of February 26. I refer to the complaint of the public taking advantage of the absence of the Police Constable to make a practicc of drinking in the vicinity of the hall while dances were in progress. Considering that there has not been a dance in Taneatua since November 25, 1940, when the men of the Fourth Reinforcements were farewelled the complaint is a joke as the Police Constable was present then. I cannot understand why that port was forw.nded to the Council as that was not the resolution passed by the Hall Committee., Il might also state that the Constable attends all the dances held and he informs me that there is no fault to find with the conduct of those attending the dances. As one who has had a lot to do with the organising of dances in this community and in fairness to the Taneatua public who conduct the dances I resent that report being published. Yours etc., HILDA HILL, According to the agenda paper a letter was received by the Council from the Taneatua Hall Committee dated February 5. We merely reported this fact and gave the decision of the council.—Ed. BEACON.
