Mr L.' G. Young, of Wanganui, was a visitor to Whakatane for the week-end. Mr L. B. Savage, manager of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand, returns to-day) after hav-t ing spent a week holidaying at Lake Rotoma. During his absence Mr J. W. Wilson has been in charge of the bank. On Wednesday Mr Savage leaves Whakatane to relieve the manager at Te Aroha for three months, and Mr W. Blennerbassett, of Wanganui,; will become manager at the local branch. The gift of a handbag was made to Miss Nance Cutler wheji friends met in Knox Hall last Tuesday evening to bid her Au Revoir, Miss Cutler leaves Whakatane shortly to take up nursing in the Waikato Public Hospital. Mr O. Paterson who made the presentation, spoke of Miss Cutler's work as Knox Choir and' Bible Class member and Sunday School teacher, - and wished her every happiness in her new environment. During the month the staff of theEdgecumbe railway station has been completely altered. The stationmaster, Mr A. Halpin, has been transferred to the Goods Department. Frankton. and Mr R. P. Russell, of Helensvillei, has replaced him. The clerk, Mr Geo. Reid, was transferred to Otorohanga, and Mr E. Hughes, also of Helensville, takes over his duties. A change in cadets was also necessary owing to Mr E. Woods going to camp and Mr N. Tauranga, "has taken up, duty.
