A SMART GALLOPER Winning Rival. by Bulandsliar from Rivalry, gave promise of being high class when she won the Welcome Stakes after scoring a month earlief in the McLean Stakes, but the former race was her last as a two year old. Last season her only success was gained in the Dunedin Guineas. Early this season as a four year old she Avon at Ashburton, beating a good field in 2.6 4-5, and her only other placing since wasi a third to Trench Figbt and Gayest Son a I Trentham last month in soft going. She has proved n difficult mare to train, and in her preliminary before the Mid-summer Handicap she moved, very scratchily and did not appear to relish the hard going. To win under 8.0 in 2.4 1-5 was a good performance, and as she was staying on well at the finish she must be given consideration in the Dunedin Cup.
USEFUL WORK Doria has got through useful work at Riccarton recently and she looka in the best of health. Although no definite plans have been made, it is possible that she may race at Dunedin. Her connections have arranged definitely to try the filly over longer journeys, and they wish to gain some information carl 3* as, to her staying prospects.
