PIPE BAND APPRECIATED
BOROUGH COUNCIL COMMENTS ACQUISITION TO DISTRICT When an application Avas received from the Caledonian Society for a grant to its funds the request w T as greeted favourabls' by the Borough Council at its meeting held on Monday night and the value of the band tq the town and district was the subject of comment by several members. His Worship the Mayor (Mir R. S. Barry), in moving that the question of a grant be decided by the Fin-' ance Committee when the estimates were being considered, stated that to do so would comply with the request of the Society, which had made application with a view to being included in the estimates. The view of His Worship was supported by Cr W. Sullivan, who added that the band was a wonderful acquisition ever readyl to assist either town or district.
Gr A. J. Canning held similar views remarking on the splendid support the band had received, from the Scottish community of the district.
It was unanimous that a grant be included in the estimates.
