WOMEN ENGINEERS
EXAMINATIONS HELD
ANOTHER CLASS TO COMMENCI
A three months course in automobile engineering and general transport knowledge was concluded on Thursday last by six local: young ladies and all were successful in obtaining a pass in the written examination conducted by Mr Cyril D. Walker, local Automobile Association Patrol Officer, whose Association is interesting itself in this branch of emergency training to the extent of allowing officers to conduct classes in the town in which they arc stationed.
I The Instruction took the form of ten lectures and concluded on Saturday with a practical road test. "There were bright spots in all the papers," remarked Mr Walker, "the questions being; surprisingly weill answered. However, one disappointing feature was, that although the class commenced with 30 candidates in October last, and although lectures were arranged as conveniently as possible, many failed to continue with the training, only ten carrying right through and four of those not taking the test. This was a poor proportion and if the members make a start w r e would like them to complete the course. The knowledge they gain is valuable to> them, both for peace and emergency purposes," he added.
Another class is to be commenced by Mr Walker when he returns from annual leave on February 27.
T'hose candidates who passed the examination held were Misses A. C. Prideaux (Tancatua), ML J. Barrowman, A. E. Morgan, E. M. Armstrong, Una Roberts (Whakatane), and Ngaire G. Alexander (Taneatua).
