FIRST AID CLASSES

THE publication of the list of successful students in the local First Aid classes conducted under the auspices of the St. John Ambulance Association,, indicates the splendid work which is quietly going on in our community, unsuspected by the average person, yet filling a very important part in the lives of those taking the course. This is not an appeal for recruits, but rather a tribute to the work of those responsible, many of them are devoting hours to work of training others,, every week. Useful permanent knowledge which can be applied in the greatest humanitarian work known to man. The alleviation of suffering must surely take pride of place in all other undertakings under the strain of emergency. It is interesting in passing to note that the Whakatane. Pipe Band which joined up with the Home Guard as a unit, has been transferred entirely to the Medical Corps. Congratulations to those men and women who in their spare time are training themselves to be useful in the relief of pain should ever the need arise.
