PETROL STORAGE
WHARFAGE PROBLEM QUESTION OF INSURANCE Enquiries by a consumer regarding the possibility of the Harbour Board assisting them to obtain insurance coverage on petrol which, owing to tneir inability to take delivery immediately on occasions, had to be left, on the wharf overnight, were considered at Friday's meeting of the Harbour Board.
The secretary reported that he had made full enquiries and had learned that no coverage was available and that petrol should not be left on the wharf for more than one hour after unloading. This made the position difficult, in that occasionally boats did not berth in- time for delivery to be taken, and that the alternative was to leave the petrol on the wharf or delay the working of
the boat
The Board, he continued, wished to facilitate companies in regard to the latter, as war regulations bound vessels to use ecrtain passages only in daylight. lie suggested that the matter be held over until the annual visit of the inspector Avhen it could be investigated with a view to satisfactory storage.
Mr (J. A. Ufrabant stated that if the petrol could not be unloaded in such circumstances then the ship could not work. To overcome this companies could ptit on a night watchman, or, if they were working througkout the night' as they had done on occasions, then the position would he satisfactory in that the petrol was not left unguarded.
It was ctecided to confer with the inspector when he made its annua) visit.
