PLEASANT SOLDIERS' AMENITY So that wives, mothers, fiancccs and sisters of soldiers who have, or be, sent to the Papakura military camp may visit them with the assurance of comfort at a minimum expense, the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Committee had expended a considerable sum in establishing "Hostess House" which is about one mile.from the Papakura town and a little less than I hat l'rom the camp. This building was purchased by the Council for the sum of £1 ..'<()() and approximately £587 "has been spent in alterations the result being a comfortable dwelling neatly laid out papered and generally- offering outstanding comfort to those women who wish to visit soldiers.

The building has been completely furnished mainly by voluntary contributions, and contains five bedrooms with 13 beds. Blankets are provided, but not linen which guests are expected to take with them. In addition to the five bedrooms there is a lounge, with radio, dining room, kitchen and bathroom. The establishment is electrically lit with electric stove and refrigerator. There is also a wash-house with tubs and copper and a splendid orchard and garden.

Normally the length of stay l'or visitors is limited to one week and bed and breakfast for that period is provided for 20s. If the stay is by the day only the charge is 3s fid per

day. Guests may prepare their own lunch and dinner if they so desire.

The matron in charge is Mrs Cunn whose address is Hostess House, Wairoa Road, Papakura; 'phone 241. Miss Elsie Bennett, general secretary of the Y.W.C.A., Auckland, is managing the undertaking and will also supply information.
