THE LARRIKIN ELEMENT
WILFUL destruction of public* property such as that brought to the notice of the County Council last Tuesday with reference to the damage of equipment in the newly erected Ohope dressing sheds, is as inexcusable as it is despicable. In every community there apparently exists a certain element of irresponsible persons who delight in defacing, wantonly destroying, and despoiling public amenities, be it buildings:, gardens, parks or conveniences. Ai, Ohope, the same thing has happened and the hooligans responsible have gone unpunished, here is a public duty imposed upon each and every decent minded citizen or ratepayer, and t&at is to bring these culprits to book at the first opportunity. Naturally there is recticence about reporting such persons, even when caught red-handed at their destructive work, but if a person can be but persuaded to sink his individual feelings he or she wiirrealise that in putting an end to the practice, they will not only be assisting the community, the local authority and the police, but also the culprit hmself.
