BEACHES AND BOATING POPULAR Although conditions in the morning were threatening, Wednesday's weather cleared in the afternoon and ! many holiday makers were, attracted by the beaches and boating. Ohope beach appealed to many and, although in the early afternoon a strong breeze caused some discomfort, later in the (lav it dropped and bathing conditions were excellent. Visitors from inlartl were also numerous at the Heads where many picnic parties were to be seen* while launch trips, particularly to Whale Island were well patronised, and many boats were to be seen outside the Heads and at the island.
