In this connection, Whakatane has already been started, and a local officer, Mr L. E. Norriste, h!as been, specially appointed to can- * vass the business firms in an endeavour to enlist their co-opera-tion and support. Already groups formed at the Paper Mills, , Dairy Company,, Messrs Armstrongs Garage, East Coast Hterd Testing Association, Whakatane Hotel, and the 'Beacon.' Mr Norriss is visiting personally the various business! groups and reports that he lias mefr with a splendid response. It is his objective to open some 500 accounts in this district, and it i« pleasing to note that in the Thames Postal ells' trict Whakatane already ranks high It is hoped to inaugurate a friendly spirit of competition between the various districts, the results being judged on a population basis mi proportion to the amount subscribed.
