Mr and Mrs Roger Trindill,, Merritt Street, have returned after a holiday spent in the South Island. Miss Gwen Griffith of New Plymouth, is the guest of the Misses Ramson, King Street, Whakatane. Included in a number of candidates who have proceeded overseas to serve with the Imperial Navy Forces is A. Stewart, of Whakatane. Mr Crisp, who for the past two years has been manager of the Kerridge theatres in Whakatane, leaves on Friday to Lake up similar duties at Te Aroha. Mr S. E. Little,, O'f Opotiki, has succeeded Mr Crisp. Mr Harry Mole, leading drummer of the Whakatane Pipe Band, leaves next Monday for military training in the Waiouru Camp. Mr Mole is not certain of his movements in future and is not sure whether hef will be returning to Whakatane. % * | Mr Robt. Frascr, of Ohope, added to his reputation as an exponent of the Scottish poet, Burns, at Waihi last Saturday evening when he gave a special Burns address to the assembled members of the Waihi Caledonian Society and visitors. Mr Fraser was warmly received and Chief Spencer of the local Society conveyed the warm appreciation of all present for the splendid address they had enjoyed. Before business was commenced at yesterday's meeting of the Whakatane County Council, the cliair-t man, Gr. J. L. Burnett, referred to tthe ( loss occasioned by the death of Hon. C. E. Macmillan, M.P. Cr. Burnett stated that, while Minister of Agriculture, the late Mr McMillan had, accompalished useful work for the Whakatane County and also in the House had on numerous occasions assisted Whakatane Interests. The meeting stood in silenec as a mark of respect and it. was decided to forward a letter of * sympathy- to Mir? McMillan.
