BALKANS OPINION
SEE BRITISH VICTORY DEMOCRACIES -WILL WJX Mr Leland Stowc. the dLslinguishod American war correspondent, in a dispatch to the Now York Porit from Athens, says: "I have just com pletcd a six weeks' circuit of every Balkan capital in order to become acquainted with the prevailing Balkan state of mind. "This is in direct and surprising contradiction lr. what could have been expected, considering Germany's domination of the political and economic life of Hungary, Yugo slavia, Bulgaria and Rumania. "Everywhere I found that nn overwhelming majority of informed opinion, both ch*ilinn and military, holds the deep and unshakable conviction that Britain and the democracies will win the war. "In extensive conversations in four capitals, I did not hear a single responsible Government official or politician express the belief that Nazi arms would be victorious. When such sentiments arc expressed by the common xieople, they are often put down to wishful thinking, but there has bene an astonishing reversal of opinion among the governing classes of six Balkan countries since the gloomy days * that followed the capitulation of France"
