WOMEN'S WAR SERVICE
THOSE ladies who are desirous of doing something by way of assisting towards the Dominion's War Effort will welcome the chance of attending the public meeting in the Parish Hall this afternoon when an address will be given by Miss Amy Kane of the Dominion. Council of the Women's War Service Auxiliary. It is confidently anticipated that Miss Kane will have no difficulty in forming a branch of the organisation in Whakatane where there are many intensely patriotic ladies who have been seeking just such aji opportunity as the new scheme offers. of the constitution and objects of the W.W-S.A. will be given by Miss Kane, and it is understood that all fit volunteers will be utilised and trained for services which can be carried out. by women in the event of emergency, or merely to help forward the war as conditions effect us now.
Dedication of Soutar's Avenue,

This disease has in . affected over 50 pep cent, and with the earlier root rot, will have a very limiting effect upon, the usual prolific crop available at this time, growers in particular arc suffering in this respect.
Jn response io the Housing Department's enquiry relative to the dedication of Soutar's Avenue, the following recommendation from the Works Committee to the Borough Council has been adopted: 'That the Department i3e advised that the Council was unable to agree tor dedication of the street until adequate provision had been made for the disposal of storm water; that the Department be reminded that, at the outset, that it was advised that the proposed method was unsatisfactory; and that, in the Council's opinion, the only satisfactory solution will be a pipe drain connecting the present system to the outfall through the property owned by "Mrs N. E. Washer.
