The Diatomous —Monanui colt Cillas, Avinnor among other events this season of the Queen's Plate at Ellcrs lie, has been sold, to go to India. Being a light-flcshed Aviry type of gafyoper he should do Avell in the land of the Rajah. Trained at anini by Hector Gray he may be raced at near future meetings before leaving these shores. Early Promotion. After executing good work on the tracks at Te Rapa for seA r eral months the Wliirhvind—Diversion filly, Gay Rosette, came into prominence at Ellerslie by running third to Cillas and Kraal in the Queen's Plate. Apparently she is to be promoted early to the open class, for she has been nominated for the Golclfield's Cup to be run at Thomas this Aveck. A Successful Stable. The Trentham stable presided over by T. George, had a good innings the holiday period. Representatives Avon races at Ellerslie, Awapuni and Tauhcrenikau. During the holiday season inspection has been made by lovers of the noble thoroughbred, of a yearling full brother to High Caste, by Bulandshar from The Begum. Pie is a typical Bulandshar, exceptionally Avell groAvn and could easily be taken for a tAvo year old. In due course he Avill be raced in the interests of his oAvner, Mr A. J. McGovern, of Te AAvamutu. Recovery of Old Bill. The Hawke's Ba}' owned, Yogi, Nvh-o in the early spring Avas i|n U.h'e boom for the Dominion's big cups, has been turned out for a lengthy spell. He has been troubled with lameness, the seat of which has not been definitely traced. Last seasqn there Avas an inquiry from Australia for this Yogi, and the reply was to the effect that he could not be purchased for even £10,000. Purchased for Australia. The four year old St Amyas, engaged in the Wellington Cup Avith 7st, has been sold to Mr D. JS V McDonald, of Wingatui, to Mr Q. Tancred of Sydney. Next Aveek the well known trainer, J. T. Jamieson, Avill come OA r er from Australia to take possession of the chestnut horse, and it is also likely that hje may secure for clients some of ifie high grade yearlings at the National sales. | Set Aside. It will be remembered that on the CA r e of the Auckland Cup Old Bill | injured a foot by twisting a shoe in his box, a nail entering the sole. When taken back to Palmerston ! North he Avas distinctly lame but Avith patient treatment had suffi- j cently recovered to be galloped on Tuesday morning. This gave him nine days in which to continue his Wellington Cup preparation and the question is Avhether the time is long enough. •Likes the Soft. Among the southern contingent for Ellerslie Avas the four year old Black Majesty, by Defoe—Lucky Bag. A rare stamp of thoroughbred, in the pink of racing condition, he did not race up to expectations on either day. It is now admitted the .racing track Avas too firm for him, and that he very much likes the soft going. He will therefore be expected during the autumn.

The Sprinklers Kept Busy. The Wellington Cup, a race instituted in 1874, Avill be run at Trentham on 16tli inst. The weather has been very dry, lmtt the carmaker of the course has been keeping the automatic sprinklers in action in order to lessen the sting in ground.
