TRIBUTE TO RETAILERS

"I think we can all congratulate ourselves on the manner in which the New Year's Eve Carnival was jun," said Mr MoIsaac, chairman of the special committee set' up to stage the | event. "I have not heard one critical remark and I think that Whakatane people on the whole were more than satisfied!. The carnival is here to stay and we will find it much easie.r next year, for we now have a pat-' tern to go by." Other speakers endorsed the chairman's remarks and special vote of thanks wei'e passed to the organiser Mr T. Tennant, and the secretary, Mr C. Good, for their untiring work and attention to detail.

Mr Tennant slated that he had received wonderful co-operation from all whom he approached and while he appreciated the remarks in connection with his work, lie could say that he had nn excellent team Avith him without which it would not have been possible to operate. All were agreed that the carnival was a distinct credit to the Retailors sub-committee which.sponsored it. The following balance sheet was presented by the secretary: Receipts, dance takings £40 6s 6d, refreshments £1 3s sd, donations from businessmen £51 12s, total (nett) £80 16s sd. Expenses, dance expenses £12 5s 6d.
