American Anglers Disappointed.
New Zealand's reputation as a trout-fishing paradise was let down rather badly when officers of the U.S.S. Bear tried Southland waters the other day (says the Dunedin. Star). Several streams were tried and found wanting, but eventually , American lures found response from fish in a little stream near Wyndham. Commander R. H. Cruzen* an ardent angler, expressed himself pleased with his catch, which included several nice fish up to three and a half pounds. Members of the previous expeditions, as well as of American musical companies, have previously been keen to try out the local deer shooting, famous because of its freedom from restrictions in/ a country rather overburdened witk * them. But'few of the officers of Me Boar think of the sport with any- - thing but a maritime indifference.. . .
