OHOPE SWIMMING POOL

: Sir, —In regard to the proposed Children's -Learn to Swim Pool.— Very, reluctantly those chieflv. concerned in sponsoring the pool have arrived at the conclusion that owing to various reasons it will be wise to delay the building of the pool until the Autumn. There has been sa much delay in the procuring for the scheme (it is months since the scheme-.was'first proposed) and even now we cannot legally start, which brings us to the worst period of the year to build in concrete. Owing to the rush of work at this time of the year any tender for work will certainly be at peak price, which will not suit the amount collected. As we are depending on voluntary labour on the pipe line, excavating of pool, and building the "dam to make the amount collected finish the job, it is hardly fair to ask those concerned to work during the holiday season and hot weather. , The work would be bound to create a nuisance and upset in the reserves during the picnic season. . A swim pool tff any size should not be a rush job as excavating and filling should be allowed time to settle, also concrete allowed time to mature before being put to stress. So I trfist all those who have contributed and whom I heartily thank, w T ill agree with us that we are acting wisely in delaying the building to the time when we can make the best job and in the meantime we can strengthen our finance and build the pool in good time for n,ext season. Thanking you for inserting this letter. Yours etc., F. MAHY, Snr.
