UNAFRAID OF GERMANY
BOLD ATTITUDE ADOPTED BY TURKEY A distinguished Turk remarked not long ago that there seemed to be only two countries in Europe which were not afraid of Germany. One was England, the other Turkey, says a Turkish correspondent of the Times. The British visitor to Turkey will immediately endorse tlini view. He finds the face of things in Turkey a refreshing contrast to that in other European neutral States. Here is a small country whose Government does not tremble before the war lords of Berlin and Rome. Here are newspapci*s which not only do not retail Axis propaganda but ardently support Great Britain and the cause she stands for. Here, for a change, are people with the courage of their convictions, that the security and independence of. their country are bound up with the military defeat of the Axis. The loyalty on which the Turks pride themselves has proved itself again. A Turkish journalist wrote a few days ago that England would have many friends before this war was over, though only of Turkey would she have cause to remember a friend in bad times as in good.
