RACING NOTES TE AWAMUTU ACCEPTANCES EXCEPTIONALLY LARGE FIELDS ENGAGED Exceptionally large fields are carded for the Waipa Racing Club's meeting, to be held at Te Awamutu to-morrow and investors arc in for a difficult time. The chief events, the Te Awamutu Cup, IJ/4l J /4 miles, and the Flying Handicap, are very open. In each case many of the horses engaged are nominated for the Auckland Christmas meeting principal events and both the distance race and the sprint may sheci light on Ellerslie prospects. Because of spacc limitations a review of all but the chief handicap is impossible.
Llangollen, in pride of place, following her efforts in recent races, is assured of a strong following and should be prominent, Te Kawiti is nicely placed and appeals more than Namara, who may find the! task difficult. Golden Sheila, on this season's form, is not likeh' to prove dangerous although she is coming down in the weight scale and may 'surprise. Bronze Moth will take beating if he leaves the barrier with the field and his ability to take a good position early should stand him in good stead. Beau Leon, after his third in the Derby, is the likely favourite and he will have the benefit of racing on his home track. However, it is understood that he will not take his place in the Held if the going is at all on the solid side. At the time of
writing prospects arc for rain and the Beau Perc colt may face the starter. Full Hand, 8.2,, has every chance and he will disappoint if he fails to run on, Lou Rosa has not been at all impressive in recent engagements and his reluctance to leave the barrier will be an addition al handicap. Foxsen, at 7,9, is likely to prove very dangerous. This Fox-bridge-mare revealed fine form over the distance last season and a careful preparation in sprint events should assure her of the necessary condition. Foxsen appeals strongly. Mintlaw and Greek Queen, on the same mark, are possibilities but Racecamp and Cillas appear to be overshadowed by those higher up. Much has been heard of Valerian and it is reported that many favour his chances of upsetting calculations On form and class, however, he could 1 not be respected. Erlick, with the ability to jump out and take the lead, is entitled to consideration but it will surprise if he leads the field home. Pocket Venus, on the minimum, and on her showing in her two races this season, may make things interesting. On form Beau Leon, Foxsen and Llangollen appear as the most likely trio but failing the first-named's appearance the public may prefer, FOXSEN". LLANGOLLEN, BRONZE MOTH. NOTES AND COMMENTS Change of Dates. The Otaki Racing Club which generally has a two day's meeting in May, has arranged for a change, and will race on April 5 and May 17 respectively. Beau Vite for Ellerslie." . It is now stated that since his return from Australia Beau Vite has freshened up so perceptibly that' he has again joined the track workers at Trenthain and promises to be back to form for the big holiday meeting. While it has not been decided whether he will contest the Auckland Cup it is, expected he will be a sure starter in the King's and Clifford Plates. He will surely be one of the leading attractions at the Auckland Summer Meeting. The Hack Glass. Gold Money Song and Foxola have now Avon sufficient prize money to putu them out of the hack class. It is confidently expected that their places will be nicely filled by such as Esquire, Cillas, Kraal and Sir General. A Canterbury Representative. The Canterbury owned and trained Wardress is to contest the Auckland Gup on Boxing Day. She is such a consistent performer, that handicapped at 7.4 is sure to have a very strong southern following. . Density Resumes. That brilliant sprinter, Density, who disappointed both at Trentliam and Riccarton, has been enjoying a slight let up lately, but will be recommissioned this week in view of the sprint events to be run at the Wellington meeting in January. Somewhat late in the day it is irjjw being- acknowledged that the Pink Coat mare is not a good proposition in the spring. / j
