METHYLATED SPIRITS ADDICT THREE MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT! "Yoii are physically unfit for work at the present time, probably due to your drinking methylated spirits," said the Bench at Opotiki in convicting and sentencing to three months' imprisonment, Dominic Augustine Clausen, aged 45 years. The charge was one of being an idle and disorderly person in that he had insufficient means of support. Sergeant J, Isbister told the court that Clausen was a ".bird of passage," having been in Opotiki 12 months ago. Accused went to, the Hospital Board and instead of trying to get a meal and lodging, demanded money. The police had advised accused, who was sporiging on people, to get out of town. Accused was in the habit of. drinking methylated spirits, and did not go to jobs given him by the Placement Constable Cooper, who arrested accused, said he arrived in town a week ago. He came to the police and asked for assistance to go through to Gisborne, as lie had a job there, but the police had found that to be untrue. Accused was hanging round the hotel all ,the week with drunken men. When arrested he had a methylated spirits bottle in his pocket.
