RACING NOTES

The Auckland Cup of 1940. The handicaps for the Auckland Cup are being keenly considered bv sporting enthusiasts throughout the province, more especially in respect the chances of the leading candidates. The'lis,t is headed by Royal Chief with 9.11. which is five, pounds over weight I'or age. Considering' that her an fifth in the N.Z. Gup last month, and has only been victorious in one event of two miles it would appear that he lias not been let oil leniently. Bean Vite 9.0 may not be required to line up on the day, but Old Bill at-the same poundage may be one of the ruling: favourites, as he is now ,being raced into form. The Buzzer, 8.3, has won an Auckland Cup, and is therefore an • accepted stayer. Gladynev 7.12, second in the Caulfield Gup,, should be all the better for his Australian racing, but Proud Fox 7.11 may be just a little' short

. of a cup preparation. "Llangollen 7.11 is nicely placed, and The Ace mare should, duty appreciate her Weight compared with what she has been carrying in sprint events. CheVal dc Voice,, winner of two Auckland Cups, is not yet highly asrsessed with 7.8,' and as, a provted, stayer might have been allotted more. Many would not have expected Namara 7.2 to be assessed higher than Beau Leon 7.1. The latter, a leading three year old of the Dpminion is deemed to be a stayer so may be well in. He Avon, two good races at Ellerslie in October, but failed at Trentham and Riccarton probably on account of the lefthanded tracks. He is quite one of the picks of the handicap. Of the 27 in at the 7.0 minimum the best may be Pern, Coronation, The Raker, Areas arid MintlaAV. *
