ADDRESS TO OFFICERS

NEED FOR STRICT SECRECY "One matter exercising us at present is leakage of information" said Colonel A. E. Conward, N.Z.S.C., Adjutant-< General to the New Zealand Military Forces, when addressing newly-oommissioned officers at the Army Training School at Trentham. "I want to impress upon you how important it is that orders and instructions issued to you as secret should be kept to yourselves," he said. "You mightt liink there is no harm in talking about some things but the release of even little pieces of secret information might have the most serious consequences. Enemy to counter our plans are built up by obtaining scraps of information from many quarters, and the enemy and his agents are continually on the lookout for scraps of information. By piecing them together he is able to learn our intentions in a manner which would be impossible if close secrecy had been maintained."
