POST OFFICE SITE

Sir, —I read your report of the enthusiastic Chamber of Commerce meeting, requesting that a new post office should be built on the site now occupied by the Civic Build-, ings, with the following reasons being given. Ist- A the most central site. better site could be chosen than the one by our present lire station? We all look for-* ward to seeing it being the junction of the two main highways into OUT town, so what better could we have.

2nd. Empty shops would appear if tlie post office should be brought past the Civic Buildings.

Let us have a look at the past; over any number of years.Any one of long standing knows what the position lias been. I challenge any member of the Chamber of Commerce to answer the following, and prove the post office tyas been the means of keeping business round its doors. First number of times shops down .from the County Council Chambers, and including the Civic i3uildings, have been empty. Number of business firm left that part of the Strand, to take business premises in the other part of the Strand. They then could give the details the other way. Let these facts come out then the people can judge, how., and in way, the interest is being. taken in the welfare of. our town and dis-< trict. These facts could give sound judgment. Yotirs etc., ' HARRY CARR,
