The Leading Apprentice. The leading apprentice of the Dominion so far this season, with 12 wins, is •N. Howard, who is in the stable of I. Tinslev, of Gisborne. The Wellington Cup. The New Zealand Cup winner, Serenata, trained at Trentham, is to make her next appearance in' public'in the Wellington Clip to be run on January If). An Australian Win. - The Gisborne bred, Lion Hunt, one of the oldest of the' Hunting Song family in Australia, Avon the Novice Handicap with 8.10 at the Rosehill meeting last week.

The Auckland Cup. The Wellington Centennial Cup winner, Old Bill, is training on very satisfactorily at AwapunL He is to be . ridden in the Auckland Cup by the successful light weight, G. R. Tattersall. A High Priced One., The 2000 ' -.guineas Bulandshar — Tea Tattle 1 colt purchased at the last National Sales for Mr John Wren,, of Sydney, has been named Murmuring. He is a member of the Ajax stable, and will not be required to race until the autumn. A; Respite. High Caste, kotiwn in Australia as "-the iron horse" is enjoying a few weeks rest from arduous track work. His next appearance under the colours will be in the Challenge Stakes to be run at Randwick at the end of January.

A. Win at Levin. The Rotorua trainer W. S. Stephens, evidently believes in travelling far afield when he has his charges cherry ripe. Last week lie journeyed down vo Levin with the three year old Teacony, and duly led him in as the winner of the Hokio Handicap. Last j'ear Stephens travelled south with Kcna, who won important events. FrieslancPs Success. Friesland, who has run only six times sinccc his final previous sue* cess, at Woodville, nearly a year ago, gained a well-anticipated victory in the St. Andrew's Handicap at Feilding. He indicated an early return to winning form by his third in the Waverley Cup.

Distance Retained. When the stewards of ■the Wellington Racing Club decided to relain the value of the Wellington Cup at £3000, in addition to a trophy, this year, a proposal was made that the distance he increased from a mile and a half to two miles. On a close division at a special meeting the original distance was retained. Death of Guineas Winner. The death is reported of Godiva, who won the One Thousand Guineas and N6w Oaks Stakes this year. Shortly after her arrival in Ireland she underwent an operation but blood poisoning intervened and proved fatal. She was hy Hyperion from Carpet Slipper, by Phalaris, and had won five" races,'worth £7387, The Railway Handicap. Paragraphs are already appearing in respect to the bright prospects of Foxola in the Railway Handicap. Those who have carefully watched her running in recent victories will, however, have noticed that the Fox j bridge filly is by no means a quick beginner, but puts in her convinc- 1 ing runs from the distance post. To win a Railway Handicap speed from the barrier, and the obtaining of a good position is generally nccessary. A Bargain. Sure Pay was offered at the yearling sales, but was passed in at 35 gns, being acquired later by the Cambridge trainer, W. Townsend. Sure Pay's record now stands at two wins and three seconds,, aggregating £720. He is a half brother to the Great Northern Hurdles winncr, \Vee Pat.

A Likely Three-year-old. A new aspirant for racing honours seen out at the Auckland meeting was the chestnut fillv Softly. She is bred on class lines, being by liard from Quietly, by Chief Ruler, from Timid by Kildorc from Anaiesia by Spearmint. Cfass Juvenile. Premature, who led the field home in both two year old races at Feilding, is a sister to Elanage and Tohunga and Jialf sister to Master Hotspur. She Js trained by G. W. New for her owner and breeder, Mr G. M. Currie, and first showed fonn >vlien she ran third to Foreign Coin and Soutane in the Wellesfey Stakes.
