Savage, when accepting the Home Guard executive committee's nomination as Whakatane district commander. Local Commander. Moving Mr U 11 Savage's nomination as district commander cl the Home Guard, Mr F. W. K. Raymond, chairman of the executive committee, said he knew of no one better qualified for the position. The nomination was seconded by Mr J. L. Burnett, County Chairman. "We ought to be the financial Home Guard in New Zealand," was a committee member's remark that drew laughter.

Maoris' Enthusiasm. The enthusiasm with which the Maori population of the county has greeted the Home Guard scheme is gauged from the fact that at a meeting at Ruatoki on Monday night 150 natives attended. Mr P. Merritt and the Rev. Wharetini Rangi were chosen as delegates to the central executive committee, the Rev. Rangi later being appointed to represent all Maoris in the county. New.
