LYCEUM CLUB
| CLOSING EVENING HELD PLAYS READ A very enjoyable evening was held recently in the lounge of the Wha-» katane Hotei], the occasion being tl\e closing of the Lyceum Club, Merii-< bers of the club read a number of }■ comedy sketches which "were thoroughly appreciated. After the play readings, supper was served in the downstairs lounge, aijd the President, Mrs D. Pearse, took this opportunity of thanking Mrs Hayter for the use of the rooms for tha evening. The first play was "Slow Curtain" the cast as follows: Malvina Hathaway, Mrs Appleby; Sloper, Mrs F. Sumner; Freda Richmond* Mrs D. Trew, Mrs "Runciman; Delia Mrs C. Thomas; Alice Hall, Miss, M. O'Brien. Mrs Cole and Mrs Littlejohn then presented a duologue, "Two Women and a Telephone.'" - The next play, "A World Without Men" was read by Mrs D. Allarr, as Madame Pavel; Miss- D. Boon as Millett; Mrs Verooe as Miss Wisper; Miss Howell as Mrs Smith; Mrs Conolly as Mrs Jones; Miss M. Whitesida as Mrs Robinson; and Mrs Lucas as Mrs Brown. Another duologue, "Noblisse Oblige" was read by! Mrs D. Pearse - and Mrs Appleby. The last comedy, "Mrs Whipple's Husband" was played by Mrs Boswell, Mrs Todgers, Mrs Cole, Mrs Ogboddy; Mrs Southey,,. Old Ma Nosworthy; Mrs Spence, Mrs Bingley; Mrs Drube, Mrs Whipple. Those present were: . Mesdames Hawken, G. Kent, Morice, Eggers, W. R. Boon, Jos Boon, Howell, Luxton, Rowan, S. Armstrong, A. C. - Martin, P. Sisam, Booth, Prideaux Sen., N. Garter (Taneatua)„ C.
