THE GREAT DAY
PATRIOTIC SPORTS MEETING TANEATUA HOPES FOR FINE WEATHER " It was not only the bf the Taneatua Patriotic 'Commttee, organisers of the meeting, who were disappointed when very heavy rain on Labour Day cancelled the sports meeting which, had been arranged in aid of patriotic funds. Hundreds of people from the Whakatane County were disappointed and the news that the meeting had not been altogether abandoned, but would lie held next Monday,. November 25 (King's Birthday) was welcomed.
The same programme as that scheduled for Labour Day will be observed, the day commencing with a fancy dress parade from the hotel corner at 10 a.m. The Whakatane Caledonian Society's Pipe Band will be in attendance.
The organisers and the very capable stewards are "rarin' to go." Their enthusiasm and that of the sporting public is one hundred and one per cent and if fervent Avishes count for anything, next Monday will be a gloriously fine day. The programme will be observed in the following order:— High School, boys, 100 yds handicap . Men's Sack Race. Ladies' Egg and Spoon Race. Hop, Step and Jump. Wheelbarrow Race, Men piloted by Ladies .. . . 30yds. High School, Girls, 75yds Handicap. 100 yds Open Handicap. 75yds Handicap Single Ladies. Pickaback Race, Men carrying Ladies 75yds. High School Mile. Thread the Needle, Ladies and Men. 50yds Handicap,. Married Ladies. High Jump, Open Handicap. Ladies' Blindfold Race. Pillow Fight on Rail. TugrO'-War, teams 6 aside. Tossing the Sheaf, Putting the Shot.
Three-Legged Race, Ladies and Men Sheep Weight Guessing. Stepping the Chain. Boys' Cycle Race, one mile. Cycle Race, Open, one mile. The programme for the School Children's events will be in hands of Mr Fox.-
