NOT POSSIBLE
SOLDIERS FOR HAYMAKING
A reply has been received by the Cambridge branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union from the Minister for Defence to a request that consideration be given to the releasing of Territorials from camps' to assist with haymaking, as* is done in England at the present time by the Army authorities.
The Minister regretted that it would not be possible to make the arrangements, as during the period the Territorials would be in camp the whole of the time available Avould be required to complete their military training.
He added that in England the position was different, as the troops were mobilised and those who were made available for farmers to use in connection with their haymaking would be men who had completed their training and therefore could be spared for that purpose.
