RED GROSS MECHANICS COURSE A NEW FIELD OF SERVICE A well attended meeting was held under tlie auspices of the Whakatane Red Cross Society on Tuesday evening in connection with the formation of a Mechanics' Class. Mrs W. Sullivan took the chair and introduced Mr Cyril Walker, ol' the Automobile Association, who has kindly offered his services in the capacity of class instructor. These classes are being held throughout the Dominion and are open to all R;ed Cross members and intending members. Many students have already obtained their certificates of proficiency. The Red Cross aims at building up a Transport Service, its members trained, efficient and ready to act as auxiliaries in Ambulance and Transport work if the need arises, A large field of service opens up here. Over twenty members were enrolled and as many of these have already gained their First Aid and Home Ntirsing certificates, they arc to be commended on their desire to help. The classes are to be held at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesdays in the Borough Council Chambers for the month of November, and on Mondays in the King Street Hall from the beginning of December until the end of the course, which will run for approximately ten weeks. Any persons who are desirous of taking the course and who were unable to attend last Tuesday's meeting are advised to communicate with the cla.;s secretary, Miss 13. Allan, Domain Road, Whakatane, as soon aa possible.
