SCOUT NEWS

LOCAL EOYS SUCCESS PRESENTATION OF BADGES Members of the Whakatane troop of Boy Scouts continue to make good progress under the instruction of Scoutmaster G. P. Lucas and his assistant Mr Vic Allen. After passing the Tenderfoot tests, the following new members were duly invested: Theo Love, •John Taylor, Allan Olsen and Tom Dockray. Service stars have been awarded the following: Jim Rivett, Eric Hunt Gerald Gartshore, Allan Armstrong, Desmond Brockett, Barry Brabant, Joe Gattsche, Colin Sharman, Peter Armstrong, Tom Dockray,, Ralph Goodall, Warren Stewart, Douglas Searle, John Boyle. Morse Code test (part of Second Class Certificate): George Brabant, Barry Brabant, Warren Stewart and Jim Rivett. The latter had previX ously passed this examination but had not received his badge. On the last two occasions the presentations were made by the chairman of the citizen's committee. The boys have recently been receiving instruction in Fire Drill practice, which is also one of the tests necessary to qualify for a second class certificate.

ONEPU TROOP PROFICIENCY BADGES EARNED The following scouts of the Onepu Troop have qualified for their various badges:— Ambulance: Scouts IC. Linsell, V. O'Brien, I, Mac Donald, A. Nell. Readers: Scouts P. L. J. Craddock W. Lord, L. Davies, V. O'Brien,, A. O'Brien. Gardening: Scouts P.L. J. Craddock, A. O'Brien, V. O'Brien, R, Barton, E. Eivers. Farmers: P.L. B. Knight. Entertainers and Cooking: Scout W. Lord. Second Class Badge: Scout B. Caul field. Tenderfoot, Badge: Scout M. lyThe annual meeting was held recently, when it was decided to hold the Scout birthday on Mr A. Jamieson's property, Te Teko, on Saturday, November 23 at 1 p.m. An invitation is extended to all that are interested in the Scout move ment.
