ANNOYING DELAY
HOPES that the proposed new Domain Board at Ohope Beach would have been duly installed before the end of the: month, have been dashed. The reason for the delay is the Government's decision to confer with various interested parties before the Minister of Internal Affairs grants permission. This attitude has the appearance of shelving the matter definitely on some mysterious internal grounds which are difficult to discover. The recommendation that the Board should be formed and vested with the full powers of administration over the existing reserves, came from the County Council itself —the body which exercised the former control. Surely this should be sufficient guarantee to the Government that all possibilities have been explored and that a body of men elected by the residents could be trusted with, the work of supervision. Plans for improvements (apart from the much maligned swimming pool) were already in view in the hope that they might be completed before the summer influx set in. Unless, however, the Department moves quickly, there is little likelihood of these being realised. " "
