RACING NOTES
An Inquiry for Sir Cameron. At the Auckland meeting there was a commissioner's inquiry into the matter of the probable purchase of Sir Cameron, Init the owner, Mr W. Cuthbert, declinexl to sell. Bronwen Down South. The Auckland Railway Handicap winner, Bronwen, now being trained at Awapuni, Manawatu, is showing track watchers evidence of her speed, and she is expected to reach winning form again very shortly. The Victory of Aintree. Aintree, Avinner of the Trial Hurdles at the Auckland meeting, is owned by Mr B. G. Taylor, secretary of the Matamata Placing Club, aa-lio for some months past has held the opinion that the Mimetic gelding Avould make good in jumping CA T ents. A Late Start. One of the unsuccessful contestants at the recent Otaki meeting AA'as Royal Challenge, aa-lio made his debut under racing colours at the age of ten years. He did not slioav any signs of winning, and one writer states: "'Nobody Avill be greatly upset if he does not turn up again." A Payable Proposition. Greek Queen, by Foxbridge—Exaggeration, who Avon the LiA r erpool Handicap at Ellerslie from a strong field, has greatly improved in appearance since last season. She "lias groAvn appreciably taller, and 'lengthened out accordingly. She is likely to be quite a payable proposition this season, as she is both dependable and consistent. Noav that King Rcj' is not in commission, Greek Queen is likely to be the Te Ptike sportsman's best performer. CheA r al de Volee. Gheval' de Volee. Avinner of the 1938 and 1939 Auckland Cups, raced at Paeroa recently, and since then in the running of the Mitchelson Cup lie Avas in .front for over half the distance. Apparently he is being raced into form and in the next nine Avecks may be improved sufficiently to once again be quite a formidable opponent* Wo many the task of Avinning three Auckland Gups Avould appear to be an impossible one, but it Avould only be another case of history repeating itself. Ariel Avon the Cup in 1876, 1878 and 1879, Avliile Nelson Avas victorious in 1885, 1886 aiul^lßß7.
Mungatoon as Hurdler. The Hcrries Memorial Cup winner, Mungatoon, raced very successful for an extended period by Mr P. A. Swney, of Te Aroha, but now owned byt Mr Harold Greenwood, is now being schooled over jumps at Riccarton. In this department he is showing distinct capability, so much so it is siaid he is likelj r to develop into a top notcher. In this connection, however, much would depend upon the Avork of the handicappers. for prohibitive weights would quickly stop the candidate., who is not built on weight carrying lines. ' The Canterbury Meeting. The Hon. Elliot Davis and Mr Oliver Nicholson intend sending Te Ivawhiti south to compete in the New Zealand Gup, while Gamos will be sent for other events. If the latter could be produced in the same condition that enabled him to win the Herries Memorial Cup, his opponents Avould find it difficult to head him off at Riccarton. Te Kawhiti's prospects of running out 2 miles in the big cup. are not publicly known, but doubtless trainer T. Verner is satisfied on this point. Certainly this contestant has staying lines in his pedigree for lie is by Night Raid (sire of Pliar Lap) from Queen March (by Lucullus) from March, by Marble; Arch. Big Money for Good Ones. During the course of the A.J.C. meeting the Wellington owner, Mr R. Stewart, Avon £5800 in stake:) with his Beau Pere colt Beau Vite. So brilliant Avere the latter's Anctories that £15,000 could have been for his ownership. But his owner, being a hundred per cent, keen on Avinning the Melbourne Cup. does not desire to sell. That such a sum offered for Beau Vite again "nothing succeeds like success," and it is quite on the cards that the Sydney oAvner, Mr W. J. Smith, could command - a A'erv large sum for the sire, Beau Perc', he secured for 8001) guineas at "he Wanganui dispersal sale of Mr John Donald's thoroughbmr stock.
