SUCCESSFUL TOURNAMENT TE PUKE MAN TAKES OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP The ninth annual open tournament of the Mokorua Golf Club Avas held over the Labour week-end and, as usual, proved itself a jjopular attraction and a great success. There was a good number of entries, although, probably owing to benzine restrictions and war conditions, these were not up to the standard of former years. The links were in exceptionally good order and many complimentary •remarks? were made bj' visitors on the state of the greens, which played well. ""Luncheon and afternoon teas were in the capable hands of the ladies. Competitions resulted: — A. Open Championship: AV. Sparks (Te Puke) defeated A. Powdrcll (Whakatanc) 3 and 2. B„ O'pen Championship: J, Reenberg (Whakatane) defeated F. Burke (Waimana) 3 and 2. Clements Cup. Best gross score in qualifying round: J. D. Wardlaw (Waimana) 76, won . from A. Morpeth, 76, on the count back. A Medal: T. C. Mikkelsen (Te Puke) 65. B Medal: G, Burke (Waimana) 66'; A Bogey: W. Sparks (Te Puke) all square. B Bogcj" G. Symmans (Mokorua) 1 up. A Stableford: P. Campbell (Whakatane) 37. B Stableford: F, Cockerell (Mokorua) 34. Four-ball Best-ball Bogey Handicap: F. Clark (Te Puke) and li. Bnshctt (Mokorua) 3 up. Kaapu-te-Rangi Trophy: N. Menzies (Waimana) beat C. liyland (Whakatane) in the final by 1 up. A Treat for Golfers. Space limitation prohibits the publishing of an account of the Open Championship but this, a detailed stroke-<by-stroke description by the umpire, Mr C. PL Brebner, will be published on Friday.
