AVERAGE PRODUCTION

RELATION TO GUARANTEE HERD TESTING Reference, i3;is been made on several occasions to tlie question of the effective average butterfat production of a cow in relation to the guaranteed price, said Mr F. J. Sheaf, general manager of the Auckland Herd Improvement Association at the annual meeting recently. At the request of the Dairy Board, he said, herd improvement associations were to collect data which would enable the "effective" number of cows to be arrived at for the purpose of computing the effective aveiage production per cow. It was necessary, therefore, for the association to obtain from members over the months* of August to February, inclusive, particulars of the number of cows in milk, together with the number of dry cows, at the time of live testing officer's visit. The association's testing officer had been instructed to collect tliis information, commencing with the August test. The association, it was felt sure, could rely on the .cooperation of its members in supplying this information to the testing officers.
