EXPORT OF EGGS

SHIPPING DIFFICULTY MINISTER'S STATEMENT . Definite* arrangements for the export of eggs to Britain have been held up-owing to the shipping difficulty, states the Minister of Marketing, Mr" Nash, in a letter he has sent to the New Zealand Poultry Producers' Federation. ' "Q)uite recentlj 7 ", and after considerable delay," wrote the Minister, "negotiations were' advanced to" the point where spa-ce was made available for 1500 crates, and then, after packing had commenced, the accommodation was of necessity reduced to 1100 crates. With this shipment away no further available space seems to be in sight. In view of this fact 3 r ou will appreciate how difficult it has been throughout to forecast Avith certainty the possibilities of export of eggs. "I have noted your view that if shipping space could have been made available New Zealand could have shipped 20,000 crates of eggs, but officers of the Department of Agriculture and the Internal Marketing Division are of opinion that such a suggested quantity would have been far in excess of our possibilities; in fact, in endeavouring to arrange for iha original 1500 crates, as mentioned above, considerable difficulties were experienced."
