Water in Strand Channels. The matter was left to the chairman and the Borough Foreman when the latter reported to the Works Committee of the Borough Council that the supply of water which had been laid on to the Strand channels was not satisfactory and that it would be necessary to make improvements at the. intake. Stated to be the only ones of their kind in New Zealand and probably in the world, two line yellow pohutukawa trees are growing on the rocky coast of Motiti Island in the Bay of Plenty. The foliage is of normal colouring, but the flowers are a dull yellow, and, when seen in contrast with the rich red of surrounding pohutukawas in full flower they make a beautiful sight. Attempts have been made to propagate cuttings from the trees.

At the monthly' meeting of the Borough Council a letter was' received from the Bay of Plenty Hospital Board advising that owing to alterations and proposed additions bv the Health Department the loan of £4000, recently raised, was insufficient for requirements and the council was asked whether it had any objection to the raising of a further £2750. His Worship the Mayor referred to the Hospital Board Chair man's statement that it would not mean an increase in rates. "Whether he is optimistic or not, I do not know," he said. There was no objection from the council.
