CAREER

RHODES SCHOLARSHIP NOMINEE MR ALAN STEWART, OF WHAKATANE Mr Alan Stewart, B. Agr. Sc., son of Mr and Mrs K. Stewart, Hillcrest, who has been nominated by the Massey College Professional Board for a Rhodes Scholarship, is 22 years of age. He was educated at St. Heliers Primary School, and Northcote Junior High School, Auckland, Whakatane District High School and Mount Albert Grammar School. While at Wliakatane he won a Junior National Scholarship. In 1936 he began a course of Agricultural Science, gaining his Bachelor degree last year, and is now completing his Master's degree. In 1937 he was awarded the Lord Bledisloe prize for the leading student in his year at Massey College. Mr Stewart represented Mount Albert Grammar at R.ugby football and swimming. In 1930 he was a member of the Auckland Junior Rugby representatives, and since being at Massey he has been a member of the first fifteen, being .captain for the last two years. He has also been a member" of the Manawatu reps for three years and a member of the North Island Universities team for two years. He has secured the College blue for both football and swimming. At Massey College he has been an executive of the swimming, tennis and Rugby clubs, and was president of the College Students' Association for 1938-39.
