THE LATEST LIST RESPONSE TO APPEAL LIBERAL DONATIONS CONTINUE Further liberal -donations, totalling £41, have been received in response to the appeal for funds for the relief of distress in London, rehabilitation and relief of members of this country's fighting forces and the assistance and support of dependants of members and ex-members of the fighting forceis. Added to the previous acknowledgments, the total now stands at £358 13s, an indication of this districts willingness to give. At Wednesday's meeting of tlie Whakatanc County and Borough In-ler-Zone Patriotic Committee, the Chairman, IVIv J. L. Burnett, in discussing the appeal, said:— "We alii know the importance of this appeatl. There are people in London and in other parts of Britain whose homes have been destroyed and whose very existence is threatened. If our share is to assist them financially we are only playing a very small part. It is up to us to assist by sharing, and the sharing can be dione by raising as much as possible. It has been said!: 'Give until it hurts,' and it has not hurt • yet." Readers are reminded that subscriptions may be posted to or left at the BEACON Office and will be acknowledged in these columns in the succeeding issue. The list reads:—

THE RAFFLE PROGRESS REPORT OF TICKET SALES THORNTON'S FINE EFFORT A very fine effort by the Thornton district committee was revealed when patriotic organisations functioning un/ier the control of the 'Whakatane County and Borough Inter-Zone'Pat-riotic Committee reported to that body on Wednesday the pro gress results of ticket sales for the raffle known as the 'Runnerstrum Raffle/ ' Allocated 20 books for sale in the district, the Thornton delegate said that so far 66 £1 books had been sold. Allocations of books (each of 20 tickets) and the number sold, as reported by the delegates on Wednesday, are set out in the following table:— Matata 25, 10; Manawahe 15, 15; Thornton 20, f:6; Otakiri 20, 4; Te Teko 25, 9; Edgecumbe 50, 10; Awakeri Maori 25, 5; Awakeri European 25, not known; Opouriao and Taneatua GO; 25; R.uatoki 20, 3; Wainui 15, 7; Whakatane Boorugh and Oliope 150, not known; Galatea 15, not known; Waimaifh 35, 20; Te Wliaiti 10, 5; Ruatahuna 10, 8. Incentive to Ticket-Sellers. In a letter to the committee, Messrs D. McL. Wallace (Whakatane) Ltd.- suggested that a prize should be given to the person selling the most tickets in the Runnerstrum Raffle and to this end had pleasure in presenting £3 3s, in cash or goods. The committee resolved that the honorary secretary's letter accepting the offer should be approved. The honorary secretary-treasurer. Mr C. G. Lucas, reported that the raffle prizeis were being exhibited in Messrs Patterson's Home Furnishers Ltd. window and also that the prizes had been insured against fire and burglary. It was resolved that Messrs Pattersons Home Furnishers Ltd. be thanked for Iheir co-operation. Funds in hand as the result of ticket sales to date amount to approximately £170.

INTER-ZONE COMMITTEE MEETS FULL ATTENDANCE OF DELEGATES '■> " ' The Whakatane Couaty and Borough Inter-Zone Patriotic Committee • met on Wednesday afternoon under the chairmanship of Mr J. L. Burnett. A full attendance of delegates represented the district committees of Matata, Manawahe, Thornton, Otakiri, Te Teko, Ruatahuna, Te Whaiti, Edgecumbe, -Awaken and Awalceri Maori, o ! pouriao and Taneat ua, Ruatoki, Wainui, Whakatane Borough (including Ohope), Galatea and Waimana. The main subjects discussed were the raffle for the prizes donated by Mr E. Runnerstrum and the appeal at present being conducted throughout the Auckland Province for the. relief of distress in London and for rehabilitation purposes. ACTIVITIES AT RUATAHUNA MAORIS AND PAKEHAS WORKING FOR GREAT CAUSES'" Because Wednesday's meeting of the Inter-Zone Patriotic Committee was the first to be attended by a Ruatahuna delegate, the Ruatahuna Patriotic Committee tendered a brief report showing the activities in that district since the formation of the committee in August. The committee's maiden function was held on September (sth, and took the form of a selling stall for which, the European and Maori women made different articles. The unity and interest shown was responsible for making it a success, the total nett takings amounting to £51 lis 9d It was considered by the committee that Ruatahuna's allocation of £75 for the appeal at present being made for rehabilitation, etc,, was rather Jieav.y, but with-the patriotic spirit which exists in Ruatahuna the utmost had been done to raise the sum and already £45 Is 5d had been' paid in. The districts allotment of hussifs and Christmas parcel's had been attended to aiid delivered and it was hoped shortly to have the remainder of the work completed. "Even though Ruatahuna is an isolated district, the commit- . tee's support can be counted on, for unity is foremost in the district, both Maori and Pakeha, working for the one great cause" the report concluded. : The Inter-Zone Committee resolved that the Ruatahuna Patriotic Com mittee should be congratulated upon its excellent effort and that it be, thanked for its comprehensive report.
