RAINFALL STATISTICS
WHAKATANE AND EDGECUMBE PERIOD DIFFERENCE MAINTAINED The period difference between the respective rainfalls, for Whakatane and Edgecumbe is maintained in the I latest statistics, the figures, covering the of September and the fall for the year io date. : * Registered on Mr H. Muscutt's gauge, the Whakatane fall for- September (nine days rain) was 2.74 inches, as against the heaviest September fall, recorded in 1923, of 7.15 inches. The driest.September occurred in 1933, when only 1 95 inches fell. Last month was below the average and the fall for the year to date, 33.6'8 inches compares with 26.23 inches'for the same period last year. ; A decrease on /last year's fall was registered at Edgecumbe, Mr Alex McLean reporting that the total for the month, 2.98 inches, compared with 3.39 for the corresponding month last year. The total for the year to date is 42,38 inches as against 33.07 for the nine months last year. Rain fell at Edgecumbe on eleven days last month.
