"WOMEN I'SED AS PILOTS" FALSE BERLIN CLAIMS Upon the particularly flimsy evidence that a woman's body washed up on tlie coast of Schleswig-Hol-stein was wearing, trousers, which might have been of a British military issue, and a watch with an aero plane engraved on the back, the Berlin authorities are claiming that the woman was a member of the Royal Air Force, and discovery of ,her body is proof of the British shortage of pilots. It is pointed out oin authoritative circles that the woman's body cannot have been that of a pilbt, for the only women allowed to fly in Britain to-day are a band of 20 members of the Aircraft Transport Auxiliary, only one of whom so far has been killed, her deatli resulting from an accident which took place on land, and not on the sea. This A.'JL\A. is, in any case, a civilian organisation. The only ones: enrolled in the British Air Force are the well-known W.A.A.F.'s, who serve as the ground and clerical staff.
