LONDON DISTRESS

RELIEF FUND OPENED THREE SPLENDID DONATIONS Liberal contributions by Mr and Mrs F. J. Reynolds, of Thornton, Mr E. Runnerstrum, of Ohope, and Mr and Mrs P. Fenton, of Te Teko, send away to a flying start the fund which has been opened at the BEACON Office to represent this district's -sympathy for the people of London distressed as the result of ruthless German bombing. At the moment the people of the Dominion were greatly concerned at the rendering of thousands of people homeless in London and other centres as a result of German air raids, said the Governor-General Viscount Gal way in a national broad cast appeal on Thursday night. Money was required to make up the £100,000 recently sent to the Lord donSubscriptions may be forwarded by post or left at the BEACON Office. Those forwarded by post should be accompanied by precise instruct tions regarding the form of acknowledgment desired and to ensure accuracy the name or initials should be written in block letters. Donations acknowledged are: Mr and Mrs F. J. Reynolds £50; Mr E. Runnrestrum £25 Mr and Mrs P. Fenton £25 Total £100 IT HAS BEEN SUGGESTED THAT OWING TO THE UNFORTUNATE LACK OF FINALITY WITH THE SPITFIRE' FUND, DONATIONS MADE INI RESPONSE TO THAT APPEAL COULD BE TRANSFERRED TO THE 'LONDON DISTRESS* FUND. WE ARE ENDEAVOURING TO CONTACT THE SUBSCRIBERS TO THE FORMER) FUND WITH A VIEW TO TAINING THEIR CONSENT AND IN THE EVENT OF THIS BEING FORTHCOMING, THEIR DONATIONS WILL BE REACKNOWLEDGED IN THE ABOVE LIST.
