RACING NOTES
Brother to Anita Foe. The brother to Anita Foe, purchased recently in Wellington by Mr J.. H. Edmunds, of Auckland, for 480 guineas has joined Hector Gray's team at Takanini. A High Grade Filly. Mr Frank Ormond's Tiderace —• Pure Gold filly will race in the name of Crucible. She is recognised at Hastings to be one of the most docile juveniles in Hawke's Bay. "Versatility. Limbolim, winner of the Trial Hurdles and Grand National Hurdles last month, is now undergoing a special preparation for the New Zealand Cup . The Limond gelding is apparently getting better with age. Win for Tetratina. The first of the Thcis stock to register a victory was Tetratina, who beat a field of seventeen in the Debutante Stakes al' the Wanganui meeting. Ridden by the Matamata apprentice, V. Dye, he won by two and a h&lf lengths in 51 4-ssecs on a soft course. Safe Arrival. On Monday the English Derby winner, Coronach, and the Irishbred Golden Eagle arrived at Auckland, and Avere railed to their future home at Wanganui the same day. Last month it was reported they may have been sunk in the illfated Turakina, so their safe arrival is all the more gratifying. The Poland Cup. Although only thirteen entries have been received for the Poland Gup to be run at the Ohinemuri meeting this month, there is no reason why the race should not be very keenly contested. In events other than the Cup really good nominations have been listed, so the meeting" should be highly successful. The New Zealand Cup. Sixty-one nominations have been received for the New Zealand Cup to be run at Riecarton on November 9th, Entries from the Auckland Province are Coronation, Pern, -The Cardinal, Te Kawiti, Beau Repaire, Royal Appellant, Sly Fox, and Blonde Princess. Most of them may go south as the Auckland meeting is dated for November 22 and 25. Mungatoon Resumes. The Te Aroha bred Mungatoon, winner of a Ilerries Memorial Cup, who was purchased over a year ago to act as a galloping companion to the champion Defaulter, has resumed work at Riccarton after a lengthy spell. He is tc be schooled over hurdles in which department he is likely to prove very capable. But the Musketoon representative is somewhat on the small side, and a couple of victories would bring up his weight so materially that he would find it difficult to continue winning. A Surprise Victory. The principal event at the Wanganui meeting was won by the outsider, Areas, owned by Mr W. lorns, of Wairarapa. The public naturally supposed the stable had brought off
"a big coup," but after the race the owner stated their candidate had started practically unsupported. Not wishing to be disgraced the owner told the boy rider to "never stop kicking." Doug Stewart carried out his instructions to the letter and won handsomely. Areas is a four year old by Hunting Song—Calisto. He is expected to be a stayer and is to be specially prepared for the New Zealand Cup.
Deeply Antagonistic. A fortnight ago at Roseliill the New Zealand horse Beaulivre defeated the highly successful Australian, Reading. On that occasion the latter, having a very strong dislike to playing second fiddle to the black endeavoured in a very tight finish to savage him. On Saturday last history repeated itself and a hard fought out fin,ish in the Canterbury Stakes Reading again attempted to get a grip of Bc-aulivre's neck, but the latter won by half a head, in record time for the course. Reading's animosity has become accentuated and after he had walked back to the official enclosure, and while his jockey was unsaddling him, he suddenly swung round and lashed out with his heels at his opponent. The flying hoofs just flicked the New Zealander's ribs, the Epsom favourite thus having » narrow escape from injury.
