A QUIET LITTLE PLACE

The people of Darwin are still chuckling over this advertisement in their local paper not long ago: Wanted to sell—well-stocked station property, quiet locality, running hot water, only fortnight from train. Owner leaving district, excellent opportunity for enterprising young man., At first glance it seemed quite an ordinary advertisement—to anyone who did not know that the property was a buffalo shooter's lease in Arnheim Land. The district is indeed quiet (the nearest white man is 100 miles away), but is considerably enlivened by aborigines, alligators, vicious ants, scorpions, and thousands of wild buffalos. There is ample hot water, but it is the fetid Alligator lliver running past the homestead, and every now and then creeping right into it when it overflows its banks in flood time! The enterprising young man who is trying to sell this attractive property is now in his way to comparative pcace and security in the Second Australian Expeditionary Force.
