PUBLIC NOTICES COUNTY OF WHAKATANE EMERGENCY PRECAUTIONS SCHEME Volunteers are required in connection with this Council's Emergency Precautions Scheme. At this stage it is difficult to indicate definitely the number of volunteers required, but present indications are that militia volunteers to the number of 800 are necessary and that in respect of the emergency scheme operations in the departments of transport, law and order, traffic, patrols, communications, supplies, supply pickets, nursing and accommodation, 300 volunteers are required. Enrolment forms may be obtained from Riding Councillors or from the County office. Also, from Riding Councillors and from the County Office may be obtained information and full particulars as to the Council's emergency precautions scheme. J. L. BURNETT, 79 Chairman. COUNTY OF WHAKATANE £50,000 RURAL HOUSING LOAN Notice is hereby given that at a special meeting of the Whakatanc County Council held on the 27th day of August, 1940 a resolution was passed by Avay of Special Order in connection Avith this Council's Rural Housing Loan No. 1 1940 £50, 000, viz. 'That the Whakatane County Coun cil, pursuant to the provisions of the Local Bodies Loans Act 1926 and its amendments and the Rural Housing Act 1939 DOTH HEREBY RESOLVE by-way of SPECIAL ORDER as follows:— 1. THAT the Council raise from the State Advances Corporation of New Zealand a loan of £50,000 or so much thereof as may be required for the purpose of making advances to farmers for the erection of dwellings under the Rural Housing Act 1939 such loan to be called ""The Rural Housing Loan No. 1 1940 £50, 000." [ 2. THAT the Council repay halfyearly in reduction of the loan an amount equal to the sum of all amounts which are expressed to be payable to the Council during the halfyear ending on each lialfyearly date by the agreements entered into with the Council by the various farmers to whom the loan moneys are to be advanced. 3. THAT interest at the- rate of £3 per cent, on unpaid principal be paid b3 r the Council calculated on the daily debtor balance of the Council in the accounts of the lender 4. THAT the securitj'- for the charges in respect of such loan shall be a special rate of 31/40 dl in the pound on the rateable value (on the basis of the unimproved rateable value) of all rateable property in the Counts' of Whakatane.' The resolution above set out Avill be submitted for confirmation at the ordinary meeting of the Whakatane County Council to be held at 11 a.m. on 24th day of September, 1940 at the County Council Chambers, the Strand, Whakatane. 28/8/40.
