OBITUARY
MR WALTER JOSEPH SCOTTI The death has occurred in Auck- . land of Mr W. J. Scott, at the age of 60 years. Deceased was the eldest son of the late Mr, and Mrs W. B. Scott. He went to O'potiki about 1904 and commenced work as a member of the staff of the East Coast Guardian, of which he became editor. He later purchased the business. A few years ago the East Coasit Guardian Avas incorporated in the J3ay of Plenty Press, but following the collapse of that firm he resumed ownership, but did not recommence pub lication of the East. Coast Guardian. Following the sale of the plant deceased went to live in Auckland, being in business there for a short time, until failing health caused' his retirement. , . Mr Scott, who married Miss Alice Maria Tidmarsh, of Opotiki, was interested in farming and some years ago he purchased a property at Kukumoa, which he later disposed of. He was very fond of pig-hunting and trout fishing, malting many trips into the Waioelca district. Mr Scott took a keen interest in the affairs of the district, and was particularly interested in golf and bowls. He was secretary of the Golf Club for a time and a member of the committee of the Bowling Club. He was a member of the Opotiki Masonic Lodge. Mr Scott was predeceasied by his wife only a few weeks ago. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs "K. Wilson, of Auckland, and Misses P. and S. Scott, of Opotiki! A brother, Mr G. Scott, and two sisters, Mrs W. Wright and Miss M. Scott, reside a* , Auckland.
