COMPLETION

WHAKATANE'S NEW WHARF WELL AHEAD OF SCHEDULE Yesterday saw the last touch added to the new concrete wharf and marked the completion of the work two months ahead of schedule. Replacing the old wooden structure between the concrete strips, construction was commenced in Feb ruary and favourable weather conditions allowed the work to be pushed ahead with few stoppages. It had been estimated by the contractor, Mr A. Davies, of Auckland, that the construction would not be completed until the end of October. A tribute to the contractoi, the wharf will ensure that Whakatane lacks little in the way of port facilities for many years.
